Discreet (Discrètes), the series written and directed by Sophia Belahmer and Juliette Gosselin, has earned a spot in the official selection of five international festivals this fall. After receiving a warm reception in Quebec, it will now travel to the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Brazil.
Produced by Avanti-Toast in collaboration with Amalga, Discreet is set to shine at the Baltimore Next Media Web Fest, Melbourne WebFest, NYC Web Fest, NZ Web Fest, and Rio Webfest. In addition to being part of the official selection of these five festivals, it was nominated in five categories at the Melbourne WebFest, one of those being the Grand Jury Prize, seven categories at the Baltimore Next Media Web Fest, and six categories at the Rio Webfest. Additional nominations may be announced in the coming weeks. Financial support from the Bell Fund has helped the series gain visibility abroad.
Launched on ICI TOU.TV EXTRA last spring, the series by Sophia Belahmer and Juliette Gosselin was premiered at the opening of the Courts d’un soir festival in Montreal. It also garnered two Gémeaux awards in September: Best Original Production for Digital Media: Drama and Best Lead Performance in an Original Digital Media Production, awarded to Olivier Gervais-Courchesne.
A Dark Thriller
Discreet tells the story of two women determined to seek justice after an assault. Macha (Juliette Gosselin) and Gaby (Aurélia Arandi-Longpré) are housekeepers who work for Discrètes; a company designated to clean an office tower. The night Macha rescues Gaby from the hands of her attacker, in this case a lawyer from the Cabinet Fichaud, the duo embarks on a quest for their own vengeance. Neither seen nor known, in the skyscraper where they work at night, the girls multiply small acts of sabotage with the hopes of regaining their dignity and make the lawyer lose his power, despite the risk of everything spinning out of control.
All ten episodes of Discreet (Discrètes) are available for free on ICI TOU.TV.
