Karine and RaphaĂ«l are 18. They were classmates in school and, since then, they have been inseparable. Madly in love, they plan to get married and move in together in the near future. So far, nothing unusual. True, they are quite young, but…they are also both afflicted with Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21).
The situation presents a major challenge for the friends and family of the two lovebirds. Their mothers, Chantal and Tania, have both wanted the same thing for their childrenâtheir independenceâsince the day they were born. This goal is not impossible to attain, but the path that leads to it does have some pitfalls and limitations. With all the work and tenacity that the parents of children with Down Syndrome devote to achieving this goal, can they ever hope to rest easy as they watch their youngsters leave the nest to fly with their own wings?
This documentary examines a unique couple who aspire to live a normal life.
