Lieutenant-général Roméo Dallaire, Les marques qui ne s’oublient pas
Alain Stanké had a long interview with Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire, former head of the UN peace-keeping force in Rwanda (1993-1994), who was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross for his efforts to negotiate ceasefires and attempt to defuse unrest in that country. Throughout the carnage, thanks to his interventions, he managed to evacuate a large number of foreigners and save the lives of thousands of Rwandans.
How did Lieutenant-General Dallaire survive the dramatic events that led to the massacre of some 800,000 people? How does he now see this awful period? After recapping the tragic events and the horror experienced by Rwanda’s Tutsis, the documentary gives him an opportunity to recount “good moments” he experienced, and to dwell on his new personal mission born of that overwhelming experience: eradicating the use of child soldiers.
