Terre d’accueil… 30 ans plus tard
In the late 70s, nearly 250 children from foreign countries were taken in by families in Quebec, making them pioneers of international adoption. 30 years later, Terre d’accueil brought eight of these now grownup children together to sum up their experience.
Quebeckers on the inside, foreign on the outside—they are all, in varying degrees, on a personal quest to discover their own identity. While some celebrate the difference that makes them unique, others are still frustrated that the image in the mirror or the eyes of strangers does not reflect their true nature. Always seeking to distinguish the part of them that was acquired at birth from the part that has been acquired through experience, their inborn characteristics from their adopted traits, they live between two worlds but sometimes find a family resemblance in surprising places…
In this adopted land where they have put down roots, many now hope to have their own children to combine the dual nature of their own identity in a single person.
